How To Transport Your Bike Through Indian Railway From State To State
Dear Friends,
Yesterday, I went to dig out some extra information for myself and all those riders who like taking their bikes via transportation. I actually, tried finding it through Google but, insufficient information and which made it irrelevant to be shared with you all.
I went to Bandra Terminus, which is less than 1 and half km from Bandra station. a bit messy, crowded and bad roadway. A New over bridge is under construction which may give relief in near future.

How to Book Your Bike For Transporting From Mumbai To Anyplace….(in India)
There are 2 ways to take your bike along:
1) As a Luggage: The Bike will go with you in the same train and will be delivered it to you within an hour or 2 max once you reach the destination. 1 - 2 hours buffering is for unloading, release documentation and other formalities (if any).
Charges: INR 7.44/Kg.
2) As a Parcel: The Bike will go with you in the same train and will be delivered it to you only during the Office Hours ONLY… post you reach the destination. Please do confirm the Office Hours of the destination and also make sure of Weekly Off/Govt. Holidays/Bank Holidays/National Holidays whatsoever is applicable...
Charges: INR 6.20/Kg.
3) Weighing Your Bike: Kilogram of the Bike is calculated over its CC of the bike. Bikes less than 350 cc will be considered as 300 Kg and Bikes 350cc and above will calculated as 380Kg. If your bike is 22cc or 500cc etc, please do find the policies for respected calculation in Kg at your nearby Terminus because there is nothing available online as far as I have browsed.
4) Value Declaration: Not to forget, you have to mention the Value of your bike too. Which is mandatory. It all depends on you how much you like to mention the value. You can declare 5K or 100K or the actual value.
5) Insurance Charges (Optional): Indian Railways charges 1% of the value of the bike as an Insurance charges. By the way, you can omit that and just say, my Bike is insured and I do not want any insurance from Indian Railways.
As many of us will have a concern for the safety of the bike from getting dents or scratches due to bad handling. I asked the person at the counter about handling the bikes and he replied quickly, "sir, we are not stupids to dump or throw the bikes. We know how to handle items accordingly."
6) Booking Bike Space: You do not have to book your bike space days in advance, as you can just go 2 hours before to the Terminus (the initial station of the train to start from) and get the booking, packing and loading done.
7) Packing: This is something that you will have to take care of. The actual charges you may end up paying should be INR 200 - INR 250 max, but, dealers for packaging bikes will ask for INR 400 - INR 450. Please do Bargain with them instead of getting over-charged. For loading, you can pay 100 - 150 bucks extra and same for unloading...
