"ROAD TO TUNGARESHWAR SHIV TEMPLE"
Tungareshwar is a Holy place, famous in Mumbai and Thane district for Lord Shiv Ji’s Temple. It was approximately 50 KM for me from my house in Bhayander, Thane.
A Short trip but crossing 2 small rivers gave a good feel and touch to this trip. The intention of this tour was to teach some Photography techniques, specially on Nature and Bird Photography to my RE Friend Mr. Vaibhav Mandallia who accidentally met me at Rpyal Enfield Service Centre and thereon, we started to talk about Tours and Photography. We planned our first short trip to Tungareshwar on Thursday, 27th August’2015. As per our planned time and spot, I reached RE Showroom at 5:25 (just 5 mins earlier to the said time) Vaibhav had a small work to finish and then he was stopped by heavy rain and same rain made me to rush back for the jacket and which was hardly went useful to us later.
Well, as we left Western Express Highway and entered Tungareshwar road, first obstacle we faced was, Plenty of Speed Breakers…which looked like it rained Speed Breakers on that road :D Later, we came across mud roads where water was filled in some pot holes due to rain and we enjoyed this bumpy ride. After riding for hundreds of metre, we got the 1st river, which wasn’t deep but had a flow, the current was not so high but, had medium sized river stones which was a bit difficult to cross at first and then we could manage easily after understanding its trick. After crossing this river, we got another river in next 300 metre ride.
Now this river was deep enough to hide out the silencer and half the tyres of the bike. Stones in this river were bigger and rounder enough to skid the tyres of the bike. I had a fall too while crossing this river, but, honestly, I enjoyed it a lot and so did my fellow rider.
Riding uphill, was not that tough but only issue was to manage the bike from skidding on the small rocks on the entire mud roadway.
About Birds. we just could spot: 1) Spotted Dove, 2) Magpie Robin, 3) Red Whiskered Bulbul, 4) Sunbirds and +3 Unidentified small sized bird. Once I ID them, I will mention the names too.,
Location: Tungareshwar.
Approx. 50 KM from Bhayander East, Thane. Mumbai.
Event: Royal Enfield Ride - Tour and Photography.
Gears: Royal Enfield, Canon 7D, Canon 100-400mm f/4.5 - 5.6, Canon 50mm f/1.4, Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 AT-X116 Pro DX, Drinking Water and Biscuits ;)
Tips:
1) Make sure your bike tyres are in good condition with grips and air pressure for this rough ride.
2) Petrol should not be an issue, just take few litres, as you will ride down the hill for free ;)
3) When you cross river(s), judge the water level by seeing or stepping into the river. It will help you to understand the level, current, pebble shapes and sizes.
5) Very Important: Stay Calm, Be Confident, Don’t lose your feet grip on the river ground, keep high acceleration, Gear on One, Never remove shoes while crossing river with your bike.
6) If your bike skids, take a breathe - stay cool. Handle your bike and stay up for continuation.
7) Never go alone, have a pillion or another rider with you, when you ride in such Jungles/National Parks/Isolated/No Man's areas.
8) Last but not the least, carry necessary medicines/first aid + some bike accessories, just in case. And update your location to your friends/family members, so they know where and how you are….
Have A Happy And Safe Riding… Thanks for Watching and Reading the experience by Kapil Semwal (Me) and my fellow rider/friend Mr. Vaiibhav Mandallia.
